James Toseland made to wait for 2009 Yamaha debut
By Matthew Birt
MotoGP
16 October 2008 12:22
James Toseland will have to wait until the end of November at the earliest before he gets his first chance to assess Yamaha’s 2009 factory MotoGP machine.
Toseland and Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate will not take part in a two-day test session immediately after the final race in Valencia later this month, with the pair due back on track in Jerez at the end of November.
But there is a question mark over Toseland’s participation in that test, with the Tech 3 squad not expecting to take delivery of the 2009 YZR-M1 until the first test of next year at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.
The British rider, looking to build on his superb sixth place in Phillip Island at this weekend’s Malaysia clash, said: “I don't think it is going to be possible for us to test at Valencia.
"Obviously Valentino is the best person to test at the moment, he is not only world champion but he is also got experience on the tyres it looks like we will be running next year.
"If he can get the 2009 package working as well as possible on those tyres then obviously that is encouraging for me as well."

Toseland returns to Donington to meet fans
Tuesday, 11 November 2008
Tech 3 Yamaha rider hosts homecoming event at British circuit.
MotoGP rider James Toseland began the 2008 season with a `send-off´ party in Donington, and last Saturday the Briton rounded off his rookie campaign with a homecoming of sorts.
Toseland provided fans at the Midlands circuit with a full compliment of Saturday evening entertainment, opening up with an in-depth `chat show´ segment in which he discussed his first year in MotoGP and his expectations for 2009. Those in attendance were also given the chance to meet the Tech 3 Yamaha star and collect his autograph in a signing session.
Having spent almost as much time with his Yamaha keyboard as with his M1 bike in 2008, the 28 year-old rounded off the night with another set by beat combo Crash, playing assorted covers and originals honed at various rounds of the MotoGP calendar.
Toseland will be back to his day job on November 26th, undertaking his first test with Bridgestone tyres in Jerez.

Toseland reveals boxing inspiration as part of reading campaign
Wednesday, 12 November 2008
Tech 3 Yamaha rider lists WBO Super Middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe´s autobiography as an influence on his own sporting career.
MotoGP rider James Toseland has provided inspirational for many young racers throughout his career, but the Tech 3 Yamaha man has his own motivational figures to spur him on. Toseland revealed one such person in the latest campaign for Britain´s National Year of Reading, in which British stars from the world of sport list the books that have helped them in their respective careers.
The 28 year-old´s choice did not stray too far from his own area of expertise, as he highlighted the autobiography of boxer Joe Calzaghe –entitled `No Ordinary Joe´- as essential reading.
`Having been in the superbike championship for seven years and moving into MotoGP this year I travel a lot, which gives me the opportunity to read. I also enjoy boxing as a sport,´ says Toseland, whose interest in the WBO Super Middleweight Champion´s career owes much to the similarity in their working class roots.
`I am a firm believer that it takes hard work and dedication to achieve success. I admire Joe Calzaghe's down-to-earth approach and strong work ethic and hope that remembering principles such as these will help me to achieve the future success I´m aiming for in MotoGP.´
Favourite reads by other sporting stars, including three-time Olympic Cycling gold medalist Chris Hoy and Snooker player Ronnie O´Sullivan, are also listed at the Year of Reading homepage.

Re: James Toseland
How to keep fit for MotoGP riding
Thursday, 13 November 2008
Video footage looking at how some riders stay in shape for competition at the highest level.
MotoGP riding is demanding work, with the 800cc machines requiring those onboard to be in peak condition. That means plenty of dedicated training time away from the track, both anaerobic and aerobic, in order to muscle the bikes around the World Championship tracks during a race weekend.
Although he slimmed down for the move to MotoGP, James Toseland is still a keen advocate of strength training for premier class racing. The Briton can also be frequently found running the track before the opening practice session of a Grand Prix event, putting the finishing touches to his cardiovascular preparations.
`Cycling, running, rowing, any cardiovascular work is really important, because when you´re riding with your leathers and helmet on in over 35 degrees it gets a bit warm and you do need to be generally fit,´ says the Tech 3 Yamaha man, fully aware that in order to give it `full gas´ one needs to have plenty in the tank.
`Strength wise it is just a personal preference really; if you personally don´t feel that you´re strong enough to get the bike round like you want to then you´ve got to work on your strength a bit.´
When away from the circuit, whether it be between races or during the winter break, training takes on a new importance for the riders, as Toseland explains.
`When not racing it gets your gym fitness levels back up to where you want them to be, but because there is so much riding in MotoGP you get bike fit and riding fit so that is the main thing that you do.´
`You´ve got to keep the training up in the gym but while you´re riding it doesn´t matter because you keep fit with the bike.´
Follow Toseland and former MotoGP riders Sylvain Guintoli & Shinya Nakano in the accompanying video of their preparations.

Superbike star James Crash-es in
Nov 13 2008
MOTOGP star and acclaimed musician James Toseland will perform with his band Crash at this year’s Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show.
Toseland, who won the World Superbike crown in 2004 and 2007, has been making waves in his debut season in the blue-riband MotoGP series.
His Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP race bike will be on display at the show alongside the similar machine of eight times World Champion Valentino Rossi.
Toseland probably has the biggest fan-base of any British rider since Barry Sheene, bringing massive attention wherever he appears both on and off track.
It is this popularity that helped him become a BBC Sports Personality of the Year finalist last season.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with my band Crash at this year’s NEC Motorcycle Show; it combines my two main passions of motorcycling and music,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to have a sponsor who provides me with a keyboard and asks me to perform with the band as a work commitment!
“Motorcycling enthusiasts are always our most supportive and vocal crowds so we should hopefully generate a fantastic atmosphere on the Yamaha stand.”
Crash will be performing on Saturday November 29, Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7. James will also be making solo piano appearances on Weds 3 and Thurs December 4.

Re: James Toseland
Tech 3 stars at war over crew chief
Eurosport - Wed, 19 Nov 18:07:00 2008
Yamaha Tech 3 stars James Toseland and Colin Edwards have fallen out after the Briton took the American's crew chief for the 2009 season.
Sheffield rider Toseland, 27, will work with Gary Reynders in 2009 as he bids to earn a further ride when his contract expires at the conclusion of that campaign.
Twice World Superbike champion Toseland came into MotoGP at the start of last season and finished 11th in the riders' standings while his colleague took seventh, almost 40 points better off.
"I'd had a couple of conversations with Colin's crew chief over the year and he was highly praised for his work inside the team and with the Japanese," Toseland told Motor Cycle News.
"Gary pointed out that he would like to work with me. It is not a secret that it could be Colin's last year in 2009 and Gary also wants a longer career in MotoGP, as I do.
"I can't have the inconsistency next year, because I don't want it to be my last year, either.
"It was discussed in a way to move the team forward. I'm sure that the dust will settle, even though it is an awkward situation."
Texan Edwards, 34, slammed his team-mate - who he also raced alongside at Castrol Honda in the late Nineties, when Toseland was a teenager - for the move.
"It is just that the code of ethics has definitely been broken," he said. "I think he has crossed the line.
"The thought of taking my team-mate's crew chief would never have crossed my mind, but I guess I've got a different code of ethics than what James has and that's probably the part that has p***ed me off the most.
"I won't lose any sleep over not talking to James."
Edwards cranked up the pressure on Toseland, who explained that he knew early in the season that things would not work out with his 2008 chief Guy Coulon.
"He's got the best crew chief he believes he can have, so now he's got to go out and prove it and stop blaming everything else," Edwards said.
"His only option now is to win races. He's got no excuses; now I don't feel any need to show any respect towards both of them, really."
Toseland said: "The simple fact is there was a communication problem between Guy and myself. There was a lack of understanding between my feedback and how it translated into the bike.
"I'm not criticising anybody. This is solely to get an understanding so we can work in a more productive way."

Ya definitely, he's comment "I wont lose any sleep over not talking to James", really sums it up doesnt it!
Im a little sad over this because I really like the two of them. Its a shame that things have gotten so bitter between two men in the same team who have been friends and known each other for years.
