Philosophical perceptions and methodologies for greater developments

Studies into urban developments in the world cities initiated since earlier times offer a wealth of information.  The philosophical perceptions and methodologies conceptualized during these periods include those of the following researchers:
·         Mayor and Kohn, 1976
·         Clark, 1982
·         Mahadev, 1986
·         Bagnasco and Gales, 2000
·         Lovell, 2001
 
The conclusions arrived at by these researchers may be grouped in three parts;
         The theoretical aspects of urban geography,
         The spatial analysis of city distribution
         Size of hierarchy relationship, and
         The structural analysis of land-use related to function, form and morphology of urban centers. 
 
The present study of urban land-use patterns by the prominent Builders in Kerala in a prominent city is on the assumption of the third aspect of urban geography with emphasis on structure, which needs to be explained and analyzed to understand the patterns of land-use of urban open spaces.  It has opened a new dimension in urban geographic research to explain the main land relationship in urban society with increasing pressure on urban space in a very rapid manner.  In developing countries where urban sprawl is haphazard and unplanned, it causes major impact on environmental issues like health and improved amenities for people.
 
Dravier, 1990 and Golledge, 2002 have done extensive research into this one aspect.  Their conclusions are highly relevant in the Kerala context today.  If the urban planners had taken a leaf out of the conclusions of these researchers, then the situation in the urban areas would not have gone out of control.
