Re: James Toseland
Australia MotoGP: James Toseland aims high
By Matthew Birt
MotoGP
17 October 2009 06:49
British rider James Toseland believes he can still mount a strong challenge for a top six finish in tomorrow’s Australian MotoGP, despite only qualifying in 12th position on the grid.
The 28-year-old logged a best time of 1.31.722 that left him on the fourth row of the grid, but frustratingly just 0.7s from a front row in another fiercely contested qualifying session.
Just one second split Dani Pedrosa in third place and factory Suzuki rider Loris Capirossi in 13th and Toseland said: “Once again today we saw just how close the competition is in MotoGP and how small the difference is between having a really strong grid position or being down the order.
"Another two or three tenths and I would have been in the top six and feeling much better after all the hard we put in today. But today wasn’t easy because I was looking for more rear grip today.
"But changing the set-up to give me more rear grip, we sacrificed too much of the front-end feeling.
"And when you don’t have front feeling on the fastest track on the calendar with some really flat-out sections, you can’t ride with the confidence you need.
"We made some changes to bring back my confidence with the front, but that just creates wheelspin and a lack of rear grip again in some parts of the track. We just need to find a compromise but I’m not a million miles away.
"I’m confident with a good start that battling for a top six is certainly within reach. I’ve still got plenty to fight for in these last three races, so as usual I’ll be giving it my maximum.”

Re: James Toseland
James Toseland furious with start penalty
By Matthew Birt

James Toseland slammed a decision by race bosses to penalise him for a jump start that robbed him of a certain top ten finish in Australia today.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 rider was on the back of a seven-rider battle fighting for fifth place when he was forced to complete a ride through penalty having been adjudged to have jumped the start.
The penalty dropped Toseland down to 14th spot and the British rider was so incensed that he went to make his feelings known to the four member Race Direction.
Toseland studied video evidence with Monster Yamaha Tech 3 boss Herve Poncharal before he left Phillip Island without even debriefing with his crew.
“I’m really struggling to describe how I feel right now,“ said the furious 28-year-old.
"All I can say is I feel the jump start decision was incredibly harsh and I am extremely disappointed.
"I have looked at the start on TV and I can’t see I’ve done anything wrong.
"It is hard for me to take but I’ve got to try and put it behind me as soon as possible and aim for a strong result in Sepang next weekend.
"I was confident of a strong race today and I was latched onto the back of the group fighting for fifth.
"I felt my pace was strong enough to have put up a strong fight for a positive result, but the ride through ended all that.
"I’m not going to let this disappointment stop me from giving my all to finish this season on a high at the last two races.”
Poncharal, who said the punishment was harsh given how minor the offence was, supported Toseland’s frustration.
He said; “I understand his frustration. I went with him to Race Direction to look at the start and honestly speaking, it was a little bit harsh and a very marginal decision.
"But we have to respect the decision of Race Direction and the rules are the rules. James hardly moved at all and that’s why he feels very hard done by because he gained no advantage whatsoever, yet the punishment destroyed his race.”

Re: James Toseland
More than soon chick. He's going to do testing next Tuesday and Wednesday from what I read on a few sites about the testing. He's been screwed out of a race result for sure yesterday. Even Herve didn't see James jump the start either.

Re: James Toseland
That's what I thought that he didn't jump start at all. God I never seen him this pissed before. Damn I think he wanted to use swear words at the race directors but he just couldn't.

Re: James Toseland
That's something I never seen James before in my life of supporting the man. It was cute though him wagging his finger wasn't it? I watched it about 101 times and still didn't see him jump the start.
