Hayden counting on Italian horsepower at Ducati event
Monday, 12 January 2009

The 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden arrived in style at this week´s Wrooom event in Northern Italy on Monday, ready for his official presentation as a 2009 Ducati Marlboro rider.

The fashionable new addition to the Ducati Marlboro team for the forthcoming season, Nicky Hayden, arrived in style in the Italian ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio on Monday, pulling into town on a horse-drawn chariot to sign in for the five-day Wrooom festival.

The annual event hosted jointly by Ducati and the Ferrari F1 team will see the American MotoGP star joined by his new team-mate and successor as World Champion, 2007 premier-class title-winner Casey Stoner, at tonight´s official welcoming dinner at 8pm local time.

The two riders are due to take part in a press conference at 10am on Tuesday, before Ducati Corse boss Claudio Domenicali officially unveils the Desmosedici GP9 on Wednesday.

News, photos and video from the annual winter motorsports event in the Dolomite mountain range will be featured on motogp.com throughout the week.

Hayden: `I know what a huge opportunity I´ve been given´
Tuesday, 13 January 2009

The 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden wants to get back to the levels of competitiveness he achieved in his title winning season following his move to Ducati.

Speaking on Wednesday at the annual Ducati Wrooom event, in the Italian Dolomite mountains, American rider Nicky Hayden was forthright in his comments about resurrecting his career with his new employers.

Since reaching the MotoGP pinnacle in 2006 Hayden has endured two subsequent seasons of difficult racing with Repsol Honda - before making the switch to Italian machinery following the conclusion of the 2008 campaign.

Summarising his current outlook Hayden revealed, `On Sunday I tried on my Ducati leathers for the first time in an official photo session and I felt very proud. I know what a huge opportunity I´ve been given and I´m very grateful to Ducati, Marlboro and everybody who has shown faith in me in this new chapter of my career.´

The former World Champion from Owensboro, Kentucky, has already been impressed by those around him at Ducati in his two initial outings at Valencia and Jerez, before the December-January test ban.

`I was immediately struck by the dedication and passion that the team is famous for and by how hard everybody is trying to make me feel comfortable in these new surroundings, as they have done helping me adapt to the bike and get the most out of it. So far everything has gone really well,´ Hayden noted.

`Obviously I need to get faster in order to be truly competitive but I already love the bike. I can´t say it´s easy to ride, it gets pretty loose on corner exit sometimes but the engine is powerful and that is important, especially in a race situation. The chassis is nice and stiff so you get plenty of feedback and I like the feeling with the front, which is really stable in the fast corners.´

Looking ahead to continuing his preparations for his Ducati debut in 2009 alongside his friend and new team-mate Casey Stoner, Hayden went on to say, `I´m happy to be working with Casey – we´ve known each other for a few years now, you could say we´ve got similar backgrounds having not come up through European competition and having started out racing in dirt-track.´

`We´re both competitive and we´re going to want to beat one another but we´ll also work together to make a strong team. As far as my expectations for the season are concerned, I still have a lot of faith in myself and in what I´m capable of. The first objective is to get back to the same level I was at in 2006, challenging consistently for the podium and trying to start winning races again.´

Hayden´s U.S. Ducati welcome to help worthy cause
Thursday, 15 January 2009

Presentation in California combines with charity auction.

Nicky Hayden´s presence has been confirmed at a VIP Charity Event back home in America later this month, as part of a welcoming bash put on by Ducati North America.

The 2006 MotoGP World Champion –officially unveiled as a Ducati factory rider at this week´s ongoing Wrooom festival in Italy, is the team´s first ever American rider in the premier class. The Italian factory have a strong presence stateside, and will put on the presentation party at their Southern Californian dealership in Brea on January 23rd.

`We are thrilled to have an American rider on the Ducati Marlboro MotoGP Team and look forward to giving him a proper U.S. welcome to the Ducati family,´ says Michael Lock, CEO Ducati North America. `Nicky is a very talented World Champion and racing fans will look forward to cheering him on.´

As well as giving Ducati´s American workers and racing fans a chance to meet - and pose questions to - Hayden, the event also serves as a beneficial auction for a worthy cause. A silent auction for items including signed helmets and items donated by Ducati´s sponsors will be up for grabs, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of which Hayden is a patron.

Hayden previews Ducati debut and 2009 season in-depth
Thursday, 22 January 2009

Moving to Marlboro Ducati for the 2009 season Nicky Hayden is buzzing with excitement about the chance to recapture his former competitiveness with his new team.

Understandably enthusiastic about his headline-grabbing move to the factory Ducati team for the forthcoming season the 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden was in good spirits when he spoke to motogp.com about the new chapter in his career.

With time for an in-depth interview at the annual Ducati Wrooom pre-season get together Hayden thanked the Italian company for giving him a chance to ride alongside his successor as MotoGP title winner, Casey Stoner, but also praised Honda for the support they have shown him over the years – despite some momentary ill-feeling in the Repsol Honda pit-box last season.

Hayden singled out Ducati´s MotoGP Project Director Livio Suppo for special thanks, stating, `They have shown a lot of faith in me, the people at Marlboro and everybody at Ducati, especially Livio. He pushed hard to get me in this team and I am very grateful. So I don´t want to make them look silly, I want to make them look smart and do a good job.´

On his departure from Honda he added, `Things did get a little bit sore there last year with the team, but in the end I did leave Honda on good terms and I am proud of that after nine years with them. In particular the people at American Honda and I am thankful to my mechanics, because everybody on my side of the garage worked really hard for me.´

Much has been made of Hayden´s good friendship with new colleague Stoner with whom he anticipates a good working relationship. The American commented on working with Stoner, `In this sport you have to row your own boat. We will go our separate ways on a lot of settings, but now with limited test time and things we are doing to try and save budget I think it is better to work together. Sure we will want to beat each other and to beat Casey here would be a big feeling.´

`At the moment he is hurt and can´t test, though I am sure through the year I will be able to bounce some ideas off him to make a stronger team.´

Giving his opinion on the Desmosedici Hayden is pleased with what he has experienced of the GP9 so far, although he acknowledges that previous incarnations of the bike have been hard to handle for some of his Ducati predecessors.

`The bike is amazing, the engine is really strong, the front end has a great feeling and it is very stable on the fast corners,´ he enthused, before admitting, `It is not an easy bike, I´m not going to lie, it is quite challenging. But this sport is not easy! I quite like the bike and I already realise that I need to be going faster on it. There have been some great riders who have struggled with it and to be honest I was nervous before I signed that contract, I was thinking this could be really good or it could have been a disaster. So far it has gone better than I expected.´

Yeah he is doing good in Ducati I think. I like his new punk rocker hair cut. I think it suits him really well. Yeah I couldn't have a pic with Nicky either at Day of Champions day. Too many people around.
